How to Add a Map to a Trip in TripIt

1. Open the Trip

  1. Sign in to TripIt (web or mobile app).
  2. Select the trip you want to edit from your Trips list.

Tap on the "Map" tab at the bottom of the screen.

To view this map, navigate to your specific trip within the app or on the website. Look for the "Map" tab or icon, usually located alongside the "Itinerary" and "Plans" tabs. Here, TripIt automatically populates a map view with pins representing your hotels, restaurants, and flights. If your map appears empty, it is often because the confirmation email lacked a specific street address or the venue was not recognized in TripIt’s database. To fix this, you can manually edit a plan item, add the specific address or coordinates, and save it. The pin will then appear on your map.

  1. Open your TripIt itinerary (Free version).
  2. For each item, click the Address link. It will open Google Maps in a new tab.
  3. In Google Maps, click Save > Star (or "Want to go").
  4. Repeat for all 15 items.
  5. Open Google Maps > Click "Saved" > "Starred."
  6. You now have a map... but it took you 20 minutes of manual work.

Step 3: Locate the "Day" View Toggle

By default, TripIt opens to the Timeline view (a vertical list of your flights, hotels, and car rentals). Look at the top of the screen. You will see two tabs:

Final note: TripIt does not allow you to “upload a map image.” Instead, it builds the map dynamically from your trip’s address data. The free map is static; Pro unlocks full interactive navigation.

If your itinerary items (flights, hotels, etc.) have valid addresses, TripIt can automatically plot them on a map. Accessing Map View (Mobile Only): Open your trip in the TripIt app.

Part 3: The Manual Method (Filling in the Gaps)

Sometimes you need to add a custom location—a dinner reservation made by phone, a specific meeting point in a park, or a hotel that wasn't booked via email. Here is how to manually add a pin to your TripIt map.
