Title: Fixing Hikvision “Maximum Number of Channels Under Playback Reached” Error The error "Maximum number of channels under playback

Common Scenarios Triggering the Error

You will see "Maximum number of channels under playback reached" when: Set up user roles with quotas

Solution:

  1. Set up user roles with quotas. Create a "Playback Only" user role that limits max playback channels to 4 or 6 per user. This prevents one user from hogging all resources.
  2. Use EZVIZ or Hik-Connect for mobile viewing. Mobile apps often use a different streaming protocol (P2P/Cloud) that doesn't count toward the local playback channel limit.
  3. Schedule backups and exports during off-hours. Do not run large video export tasks during peak investigation times (e.g., 9 AM to 5 PM).
  4. Upgrade to Hikvision’s "K" series or "I" series. Older "HQ" series NVRs have very low playback limits. Modern "K/I" series handle resources much better.
