Abstract: This paper examines the phenomenon of "Dong Yi," a South Korean historical drama that has captured the hearts of Vietnamese audiences through its Vietnamese subtitle (Phim Dong Yi Vietsub). The series, which originally aired from 2010 to 2011, tells the story of Choi Suk-bin, a young woman who rises from a humble background to become a royal concubine during the reign of King Sukjong. Through a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data, this study investigates the cultural significance and enduring popularity of "Dong Yi" among Vietnamese viewers, exploring themes such as cultural affinity, historical interest, and the role of subtitling in facilitating cross-cultural exchange.
