In the vast ocean of anime adaptations, most titles follow a predictable path: a popular manga or light novel gets a studio greenlight, airs for a season, and either fades into memory or explodes into mainstream consciousness. However, nestled in the crates of forgotten DVD releases and whispered about on obscure anime forums is a unique specimen known as OVA Imaria.
“Your happiness is their nightmare. Unpolished.” OVA Imaria
Title: Imaria (Also known as Imaria: The Animation) Japanese Title: イマリラ Format: OVA (Original Video Animation) Genre: Adult / Hentai Studios: Studio 1st, Collaboration Works OVA Imaria: A Deep Dive into the Cult
Warning: OVA Imaria contains graphic sexual violence, body horror, and psychological torture. It is not for casual viewers. Unpolished
The story is set in a post-war, cyberpunk-tinged metropolis governed by the monolithic Kihara Institute. Here, "Artificial Lifeforms" known as AL-types are used as disposable labor, military assets, and—most disturbingly—domestic servants. The protagonist, Ryosuke Tachibana, is a mid-level researcher at Kihara who becomes the caretaker of Imaria, a prototype AL-type with unprecedented emotional receptors.
The Inciting Incident: During a late-night shift, a malfunctioning Pearl cracks open. Instead of a serene sunset or a child’s first laugh, Imaria experiences a raw, unfiltered memory: a woman in The Wash holding her dead son, her grief so powerful it feels like fire. Imaria realizes the "raw memories" aren't simulations—they are real, stolen from the minds of the dying.
