Manycam 261 Fix
ManyCam 2.6.1 is a legacy version of the popular virtual webcam software, originally released around October 2010. While it remains a lightweight choice for users on older operating systems, it frequently encounters compatibility issues with modern apps like Zoom, Skype, and Windows 10/11.
- Outdated or Corrupted Graphics Drivers – Your GPU drivers (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) are responsible for processing video. Outdated drivers cause rendering conflicts.
- Conflicting DirectShow Filters – Third-party codec packs or other virtual camera software can interfere with ManyCam’s filters.
- Insufficient User Permissions – ManyCam requires administrator-level access to modify video capture settings.
- Antivirus or Firewall Blocking – Some security software mistakenly flags ManyCam’s video driver components as suspicious.
- Corrupted ManyCam Installation – Missing DLL files or registry keys from an incomplete installation or update.
- Another Application Using the Webcam – Windows’ exclusive access policy can block ManyCam if another program is already using the camera.
- Close all applications that might use your camera: Zoom, Skype, Discord, OBS, Chrome (with camera access), etc.
- Open Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Ensure "Camera access" is turned On.
- Scroll down and make sure "Allow apps to access your camera" is On.
- Specifically check that ManyCam is listed and allowed.
- If you use a laptop with a physical webcam shutter or Fn key toggle, ensure the camera is enabled.
- Disable real-time protection in your antivirus (usually right-click the systray icon).
- Run ManyCam as Administrator.
- If Error 261 disappears, add ManyCam’s entire installation folder to your antivirus’s exclusion/whitelist list.
