Introduction to JOI Lab VR - Caulino Demo
The demo is built on Unreal Engine and requires a moderately powerful PC setup for optimal performance: OS: Windows 10 (64-bit) Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1060 JOI Lab VR -Demo 0.2.7- -Caulino-
3. Core Interaction Loop
Unlike standard VR demos, Caulino has no menus or teleportation. You stand in the center of the room. The simulation revolves around three states of interaction: Introduction to JOI Lab VR - Caulino Demo
Hand Tracking: Support for hand tracking allows for controller-free immersion, enabling players to interact with the virtual world using natural gestures. Accessibility and Controls A metronome (which sets the rhythm of commands)
What’s new in 0.2.7 (Caulino)
- Refined hand interactions: Grasping, pinch and tool-handle attachment are more consistent; object snap and release physics feel less “floaty.”
- Improved locomotion comfort: Tuned vignette fade, smoother acceleration curves, and optional teleport smoothing reduce motion sickness risk.
- UI/UX polish: HUD elements are repositioned for clearer readability; contextual help appears when users hesitate near interactive objects.
- Performance optimizations: Reduced frame drops on mid-range headsets via GPU draw-call batching and simpler shader variants in non-critical materials.
- Expanded sample scene: New micro-environment (the “Caulino workshop”) showcases modular puzzles and a short guided sequence to demonstrate core mechanics.
- Bug fixes: Addressed object clipping in narrow spaces, inconsistent haptic triggers, and a handful of interaction edge cases causing freezes.
- A metronome (which sets the rhythm of commands).
- A small mirror (where you see a stylized representation of your VR headset).
- A note on a table (which reads: "Caulino. Session 0.2.7. Trust is not given; it's calibrated.")
