Tangled Roots, Broken Branches: The Architecture of Family Drama

Family drama is the oldest genre in the world. Before there were kings and crusades, there were siblings fighting over inheritance, parents disappointing children, and lovers betraying the clan. It is the primal soup of all storytelling because it touches the first society any human ever knows: the family.

Psychologists refer to this as the "attachment wound." Family drama storylines thrive on the gap between expectation (love, safety) and reality (neglect, manipulation, competition). When we watch a patriarch pit his children against each other for a throne, or a mother prioritize reputation over her daughter’s happiness, we are witnessing a primal violation of the social contract.
