The DDJ-SB2, Apple Silicon, and Rekordbox: A Driver Deep Dive

If you own a Pioneer DDJ-SB2 and have recently tried using it with Rekordbox on a modern Mac, you’ve likely hit a wall.

Big Sur/Monterey/Sonoma Compatibility: If you are on a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3), ensure you are running the latest version of rekordbox (version 6 or 7), as older versions may have mapping issues. ddj-sb2 rekordbox driver mac

Issue: USB Device drawing too much power.

  • Solution: The DDJ-SB2 is bus-powered. If your Mac screen dims or the controller disconnects, use a USB hub with its own external power supply.

Option C: Downgrade macOS to Mojave or Catalina

On older MacBooks, downgrading to macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or 10.15 (Catalina) restores full SB2 + Rekordbox 5 functionality. You lose modern app support, but the controller works. Solution: The DDJ-SB2 is bus-powered

  • Install Rekordbox 6 (free “Core” plan works for basic mixing with DDJ-SB2).
  • Connect the DDJ-SB2 via USB.
  • In Rekordbox → PreferencesAudioAudio Device → Select DDJ-SB2.
