Once the ASDM-IDM Launcher is installed, you can launch it by double-clicking on the icon. The launcher will prompt you to enter the IP address or hostname of the ASA 5505, as well as a username and password.

1. Console into the ASA using a serial cable (9600 baud, 8N1).
2. Interrupt the boot process by sending a Break (Putty: Ctrl+Break).
3. Enter ROMMON mode.
4. Set your PC as a TFTP server (use tftpd64 on Windows).
5. Issue:

   interface gigabitethernet 0/0
   address 192.168.1.2
   server 192.168.1.100
   file asdm-7121.bin
   tftp
   

6. Once transferred, boot normally: boot flash:/asa-921.bin
7. Then set the ASDM image: asdm image flash:asdm-7121.bin

• If the installer detects Java, it will proceed.
• If it does not, you may need to install Java 8 (JRE 1.8) manually before the Launcher will open.

• Java Runtime Environment (JRE): Version 8 (32-bit or 64-bit, depending on your OS). Newer JRE versions break compatibility.
• ASA Image: At least version 8.2(1) for basic ASDM 6.4; version 9.1(7) is recommended for modern features.
• ASDM Image: Must match the ASA software version.
