Indian weddings are vibrant, multi-day celebrations that blend religious sanctity with festive social gatherings

7. The Kanya Daan (The Gift of the Daughter) One of the most sacred and emotional moments. The Sanskrit word Daan means "charity" or "gift." The bride’s father takes her right hand and places it into the groom’s right hand, pouring holy water over the clasped hands. He then recites verses declaring that he is willingly gifting his daughter to the groom. In the Hindu context, this is considered the highest form of parental sacrifice ( Daan is considered complete only when water is poured). The groom accepts her with a vow to protect her Dharma (righteousness), Artha (wealth), and Kama (desire). This ritual is so central that in many regions, if the father is deceased, an uncle or brother must perform it.

Part III: The Post-Wedding Rituals (Vidai to Griha Pravesh)

The wedding isn't over when the fire is extinguished. The hardest part is yet to come: the departure.

Pheras: The most sacred ritual, where the bride and groom walk around the sacred fire (usually seven times) to signify their commitment to each other and their new life together.

Haldi (Turmeric Ceremony): A vibrant ritual where a paste of turmeric, sandalwood, and rosewater is applied to the couple's face and body. This is believed to purify the soul, ward off evil spirits, and give the skin a natural glow.
